Chicago Rider & Camper Protection

Protection for the Open Road & The Off-Season

Specialized coverage for Bikes, Scooters, Motorhomes, and Trailers—because we ride too.

Surviving Illinois Winters

The Off-Season Trap

Every winter, Chicago riders make the same costly mistake: they cancel their insurance to "save money." Then in March, their bike gets stolen from the garage—and they have zero coverage.

The smarter move? Switch to a "Lay-Up" or Storage-Only policy. You stay protected from theft, fire, and even snow collapse damage for a fraction of the cost while your bike hibernates.

Rider & Camper Essentials

  • Guest Passenger Liability (Mandatory in IL)
  • Custom Parts & Equipment (Chrome/Saddlebags)
  • Vacation Liability (Campsite Accidents)
  • Total Loss Replacement
  • Roadside Assistance (Trip Interruption)
  • Uninsured Motorist (Vital for Riders)

Two Wheels or Four?

Motorcycles & Scooters

Confused about Class M vs. Class L? In Illinois, anything over 150cc requires a Class M license. Under that, you need Class L. Either way, we insure both—from Vespas to Harleys.

RVs & Motorhomes

Your home on wheels needs more than auto insurance. Standard policies don't cover the plumbing, awning, or personal belongings inside. Specialized RV coverage protects everything from the chassis to the coffee maker.

Custom & Vintage

Have a custom Harley with $15K in chrome? A vintage Airstream worth triple its book value? Standard "Actual Cash Value" policies will underpay you. We offer Agreed Value coverage that pays what your ride is actually worth.

City Riding Risks

Theft, Vandalism & Chicago Potholes

In Chicago, motorcycles get lifted into vans and disappear in under 60 seconds. This isn't paranoia—it's reality. Comprehensive coverage is non-negotiable for any bike parked on city streets or even in shared garages.

And those legendary Chicago potholes? Hitting one counts as a Collision claim. Make sure your policy covers single-vehicle incidents, or you're paying out of pocket for bent rims and suspension damage.

Comprehensive
Covers theft, vandalism, fire, and weather damage.
Collision
Repairs your bike after crashes—including pothole hits.
Uninsured Motorist
Critical protection—riders are vulnerable to hit-and-runs.
Custom Parts
Protects aftermarket upgrades standard policies ignore.

Weekend Warriors: Trailer Coverage

5th Wheels & Toy Haulers

Here's what most people don't realize: your truck's liability extends to your trailer only while it's hitched and moving. The moment you unhook at the campsite? You have zero coverage.

If someone trips over your hitch, if a tree falls on your trailer, if your toy hauler gets broken into—you're on your own without a specific Trailer policy.

Trailer Coverage Includes

  • Parked Liability: Protection when unhooked at the campsite.
  • Contents Coverage: Your gear, bikes, ATVs, and equipment inside.
  • Awning & Slide-Out: These break easily and cost thousands to replace.
  • Emergency Expenses: Hotels and transport if your trailer is damaged mid-trip.

The Coverage Gap

While Towing: Your truck's liability covers damage the trailer causes to others. But if your trailer is damaged, you need separate Collision coverage on the trailer itself.

While Parked: Once unhooked, your trailer is essentially an uninsured structure. Personal liability, theft, and weather damage require a dedicated Trailer policy.

Full-Timers vs. Recreational RVers

Two Different Lifestyles, Two Different Policies

How you use your RV determines what coverage you need. The difference is crucial—and getting it wrong can leave you seriously exposed.

Full-Timer = Homeowners-Style Coverage Recreational = Standard RV Policy

Full-Timers: If your RV is your primary residence, you need coverage that acts like Homeowners Insurance—personal liability, personal property, and loss of use if your home on wheels becomes uninhabitable.

Recreational: If you use your RV for vacations (even month-long trips), a standard RV policy with Vacation Liability covers your needs at a lower cost.

Full-Timer Essentials

  • Personal Liability ($100K+ recommended)
  • Personal Property Coverage
  • Loss of Use / Additional Living Expenses
  • Medical Payments to Others

Specialty Coverage Options

Medical Payments

Covers your medical bills after an accident, regardless of fault—critical for riders.

Trip Interruption

Reimburses lodging, meals, and transportation if your RV breaks down mid-trip.

Vacation Liability

Covers campsite accidents—someone trips over your gear or your dog bites a neighbor.

Common Questions

In Illinois, if your scooter can exceed 30 mph, you need liability insurance—period. You'll also need a Class L license for scooters under 150cc or a Class M license for anything larger. Even for small scooters exempt from insurance requirements, we strongly recommend coverage due to Chicago's traffic risks and theft rates.

Only partially. Your auto policy's liability may extend to your RV while you're driving it, but it covers nothing inside the RV—no personal belongings, no appliances, no awnings or slide-outs. And once parked at a campsite, you have zero liability protection. You need a dedicated RV policy to be properly covered.

Please don't cancel—switch to a "Lay-Up" or Storage-Only policy instead. This keeps Comprehensive coverage active (protecting against theft, fire, and weather damage) while suspending the expensive liability and collision portions. You'll save money but stay protected. Canceling entirely means zero coverage if your bike is stolen from the garage in February.

Vacation Liability protects you from accidents that happen at your campsite. If a neighbor trips over your campfire log, if a kid falls off your RV steps, or if your dog bites another camper—this coverage pays for their medical bills and any lawsuit that follows. It's essentially personal liability insurance for your temporary outdoor "home."

In Illinois, Class L covers motor-driven cycles under 150cc (like most scooters). Class M covers all motorcycles, including those over 150cc. If you ride a 125cc scooter, you only need Class L. But if you upgrade to a 250cc motorcycle, you'll need to get your Class M endorsement. We insure riders with either license type.

Yes, pothole damage is typically classified as a Collision claim—even though no other vehicle was involved. If you bend a rim, damage your suspension, or wreck your forks hitting one of Chicago's legendary craters, you'll need Collision coverage to pay for repairs. Make sure your policy covers single-vehicle incidents.

Not automatically. Standard motorcycle policies typically cover the bike at "Actual Cash Value"—what a stock version would sell for. If you've added custom chrome, saddlebags, exhaust systems, or other modifications, you need a Custom Parts & Equipment endorsement. We recommend documenting all modifications with photos and receipts.

Yes. Your tow vehicle's liability extends to the trailer only while it's hitched and moving. Once you unhook at the campsite, you have zero coverage—no liability if someone gets hurt, no protection if it's stolen or damaged. A dedicated Trailer policy covers the gap and protects your investment.
